Role Overview
This position anchors the day-to-day stewardship of a global fund dedicated to Ecosystem-based Adaptation, guiding it from strategic design through scale-up and independent evaluation. You will be the connective tissue between implementing partners, technical specialists and senior decision-makers, translating evidence and financial performance into the reporting and meeting materials that keep the portfolio moving. The work matters because adaptation finance only delivers results when programmes are tracked rigorously, documented clearly and adjusted quickly — and that is the function this role performs.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with implementing organisations to shape, expand and evaluate the Global Ecosystem-based Adaptation Fund, tracking progress against its strategic objectives over time.
- Run the Fund's monitoring and analysis cycle, synthesising results into periodic reports and preparing the documentation and meeting materials required for governance and management decisions.
- Manage assigned tasks across the Fund and contribute to the delivery of related adaptation projects and programmes as priorities shift.
- Conduct applied research, consolidate inputs from multiple stakeholders and draft written products that feed into programme delivery, policy positions and normative guidance on adaptation.
- Organise technical meetings end to end — building agendas, preparing speaker notes, background briefs and participant lists, and coordinating logistics with contributors.
- Gather and interrogate quantitative and qualitative data to surface trends and patterns, then present findings through charts, tables, dashboards and narrative reports that support evidence-based planning and decision-making.
- Provide technical input and strategic advice to project teams on adaptation implementation challenges, including budget oversight for large-scale portfolios.
- Take on additional duties consistent with the level of the post as they arise.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in environmental management, climate change, environmental sciences or a closely related field. A first-level degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in place of the advanced degree. Completion of degree or non-degree coursework in data analytics, business analytics or data science is an advantage.
- Core experience: At least five years of relevant, progressively responsible work in climate change, adaptation, ecosystems or a related environmental field.
- Technical advisory track record: A minimum of two years supplying technical inputs and strategic advice during the implementation of climate change adaptation projects.
- Budget management: At least two years managing project budgets at or above USD $10 million.
- Monitoring, reporting and convening: Demonstrated strength in analysis, drafting technical and meeting reports, preparing supporting documentation and taking ownership of meeting planning — ideally gained over three or more years in an international setting.
- Data skills: Two or more years of experience in data analytics or a comparable area, with the ability to convert raw data into clear visual and written insight.
- Institutional context: Prior work within the United Nations, another intergovernmental body or a comparable international organisation is highly desirable.
- Working style: Comfort operating across cultures and time zones, juggling parallel workstreams, and communicating complex adaptation concepts concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
