Role Overview
This position owns the ceramic and everyday porcelain business across the Mombasa market, working the field daily to bring in new retail, distribution and wholesale accounts while keeping existing buyers ordering consistently. You will act as the face of the brand in front of shop owners and trade partners, turning enquiries and quotations into confirmed orders and repeat business. The role matters because steady growth in this territory depends less on walk-in traffic and more on disciplined prospecting, sharp pricing conversations and reliable follow-through from order to delivery to payment.
Key Responsibilities
- Sell ceramic products and daily-use porcelain — including tableware such as plates, cups and bowls — to retailers, distributors, wholesalers and other trade customers within the assigned territory.
- Build a pipeline by identifying new customer segments, opening new accounts and converting qualified prospects into buying customers.
- Chase down every open lead, quotation and proposal until it either closes or is formally dropped, keeping conversion rates moving in the right direction.
- Make scheduled client visits and product presentations to demonstrate ranges, finishes and applications, and to uncover additional order opportunities.
- Hit the monthly and annual sales targets agreed with the Sales Manager.
- Prepare quotations within approved pricing guidelines, negotiate terms and close deals without breaching company policy.
- Track competitor pricing, product activity and shifting customer preferences, and report that intelligence back to management.
- Keep accurate records of visits, prospects, orders, customer feedback and market developments, and submit regular performance and pipeline reports.
- Coordinate with showroom, warehouse, logistics and finance colleagues to ensure orders are processed cleanly, delivered on time and invoiced correctly, and follow up on outstanding payments and customer issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Sales & Marketing, Business Administration or a comparable discipline.
- At least 2 years of demonstrable sales experience, ideally gained in ceramics, building materials, sanitary ware, home improvement, FMCG or a closely related sector.
- Direct exposure to selling ceramic tiles, sanitary ware, daily-use porcelain or similar tableware products is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of ceramic product categories, sizes, finishes and how customers select them for different uses.
- A track record of opening new accounts and converting prospects rather than only servicing an existing book of business.
- Prior dealings with retailers, distributors, wholesalers or dealers would be an advantage.
- Confident negotiation, communication and presentation ability, with the interpersonal skills to build lasting customer relationships.
- Comfort with numbers and reporting, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard sales reporting tools.
- Self-driven, target-oriented and able to work productively with minimal supervision.
- Core competencies the role demands: business development, lead generation and conversion, customer relationship management, negotiation and closing, market and competitor analysis, disciplined follow-up, problem-solving, teamwork, and integrity in handling pricing, credit and customer dealings.
