Role Overview
As an Outbound Logistics Controller, you will be the central point of contact for every truck that leaves our distribution network. Your day-to-day focus is ensuring that outbound shipments move on schedule, reach the right destinations, and stay visible to customers and internal teams. By combining live tracking data with clear communication, you help prevent disruptions before they become costly delays. Your work directly supports the reliability of our supply chain and keeps clients confident in our delivery commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor all outbound vehicles in real time using GPS and telematics systems, flagging any deviations from planned routes or schedules.
- Match available trucks to pending deliveries based on load capacity, route efficiency, and the specific commodity being transported.
- Keep internal stakeholders and external clients informed with live updates on trip progress, estimated arrival times, and any changes.
- Detect potential disruptions early—such as traffic hold-ups, route diversions, or driver non-compliance—and escalate them before they impact the delivery schedule.
- Prepare and distribute visibility dashboards and trip completion reports, translating raw tracking data into clear, actionable summaries.
- Coordinate with the Control Tower Analyst to consolidate outbound movement data and support broader reporting requirements.
- Serve as the point of contact for customer delivery-status inquiries, ensuring accurate and timely responses.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in transport or logistics operations, with direct exposure to fleet coordination.
- Proven ability to work with tracking platforms, telematics systems, and fleet management software.
- Comfortable processing and interpreting large volumes of operational data with strong attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of distribution planning principles, including load optimisation and route selection.
- Proficient in Excel and able to build clear reports; experience with Power BI is advantageous.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple moving shipments simultaneously without losing accuracy.
- Excellent communication and escalation skills—able to relay urgent issues clearly to drivers, managers, and clients.
- Calm and resourceful under pressure, capable of problem-solving quickly when deliveries face unexpected obstacles.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and responsive, with a natural tendency to spot risks before they escalate.
