Supermarket Branch Managers

Role Overview

The Supermarket Branch Manager will hold complete operational and commercial accountability for driving sales targets, safeguarding inventory, maintaining visual merchandising standards, and leading branch staff. Reporting to senior operational management, the successful candidate will ensure excellent customer service, minimize stock shrinkage, and maintain efficient day-to-day retail processes.

Core Competencies & Key Responsibilities

Store Operations & Visual Merchandising

  • Manage daily branch operations to ensure seamless store opening, floor cleanliness, product displays, and customer flow.

  • Enforce institutional retail policies, pricing guidelines, shelf tagging, and statutory compliance standards.

  • Implement promotional campaigns, seasonal offers, and in-store marketing displays to boost impulse buying.

Stock Control & Procurement Oversight

  • Direct stock ordering, goods receiving, warehouse storage, and shelf replenishment schedules.

  • Monitor product movement trends, stock rotation, and reorder levels to eliminate stock-outs and overstocking.

  • Execute regular stock counts, audits, and loss-prevention measures to control shrinkage, spillage, and theft.

Sales Drive & Financial Administration

  • Monitor daily sales, cash register balances, petty cash expenditures, and daily banking procedures.

  • Analyze Point of Sale (POS) reports and sales data to track branch performance against assigned revenue targets.

  • Compile and present weekly/monthly operational reports covering sales metrics, inventory variance, and branch overheads.

Team Leadership & Customer Service

  • Schedule duty rosters, assign daily floor tasks, manage attendance, and motivate floor supervisors, cashiers, and shelf packers.

  • Resolve escalated customer complaints quickly and promote a customer-first service culture on the floor.

  • Conduct performance reviews, address absenteeism or disciplinary issues, and identify staff training needs.

Skills & Experience Required

Prerequisites & Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Retail Management, Supply Chain, Procurement, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of active experience as a Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Supervisor, or Procurement Officer in a fast-paced retail or supermarket environment.

  • Product Knowledge: Solid understanding of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), POS systems, inventory management, and floor merchandising.

Technical & Interpersonal Capabilities

  • Software: Proficient in retail POS software, Microsoft Excel, and daily reporting spreadsheets.

  • Leadership: Strong team management, conflict resolution, and communication capabilities.

  • Work Ethic: Results-driven, trustworthy, and capable of working flexible retail shifts (including weekends and holidays).
