Job Description

Role Overview

Pearl Hospital is looking for a seasoned nursing leader to take ownership of nursing services and drive quality improvement across the entire facility. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day nursing operations spanning outpatient, inpatient, maternity and theatre services while building the systems, standards and accountability that keep patient care safe and consistent. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Director of Clinical Services, you will be the driving force behind the hospital's readiness for SafeCare assessment and accreditation — making this a position where your leadership directly shapes clinical outcomes and the hospital's reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily nursing operations across outpatient, inpatient, maternity, theatre and other clinical units, ensuring adequate coverage and smooth service delivery.
  • Strengthen nursing supervision by improving shift handovers, duty allocation, clinical documentation and continuity of patient care.
  • Track nursing performance, staff competencies and staffing requirements, and monitor adherence to established clinical standards.
  • Coordinate clinical audits, patient-safety reviews, incident investigations and the corrective actions that follow.
  • Develop and monitor quality indicators covering patient safety, infection prevention, medication practices, documentation, patient experience and service delivery.
  • Lead the rollout of the hospital's quality-improvement plan and drive preparation for SafeCare assessment and accreditation.
  • Support departments in developing, implementing and regularly reviewing policies, SOPs and clinical protocols.
  • Convene quality and patient-safety committee activities and track agreed actions through to closure.
  • Train, mentor and support clinical staff to raise performance, accountability and patient-centred care.
  • Prepare monthly reports on nursing performance, quality indicators, incidents, risks and improvement actions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognised institution.
  • Current Nursing Council of Kenya registration with a valid practising licence.
  • At least five years' nursing experience, including a minimum of two years in a supervisory role such as ward in-charge, nursing supervisor or deputy matron.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a measurable clinical or operational quality-improvement initiative.
  • Hands-on experience with clinical audits, incident investigation, infection prevention, SOP implementation and staff competency assessment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving and performance-management skills.
  • Ability to use data, Excel and routine reports to identify gaps and monitor improvement.
  • Experience with SafeCare, KQMH, ISO, hospital accreditation or regulatory inspections is an added advantage.
  • Postgraduate training in healthcare management, quality improvement or patient safety is an added advantage.

How to Apply
