Role Overview
The Clinical Officer provides day-to-day primary care for the Lions Strength community, from consultations and treatment to preventive health guidance and referrals. The role also keeps the dispensary, clinical records and referral processes running safely and reliably, supporting the health of people at work and on campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients, obtain medical histories, perform examinations and diagnose and treat conditions within the limits of professional practice.
- Deliver first aid and emergency stabilization, arrange follow-up care, and refer patients to other providers when their needs require it.
- Prescribe and dispense medicines in accordance with approved clinical guidance, and explain treatment and health information clearly to patients.
- Promote prevention and wellness through screening, counselling, infection-control practices and community health activities.
- Keep the dispensary clean, organized and appropriately equipped; monitor medicine and supply stocks, storage conditions, expiry dates and disposal.
- Record consultations, treatment, referrals and follow-up securely and accurately, prepare routine clinical reports, and share anonymized health information for planning where appropriate.
- Coordinate referrals with hospitals, laboratories, specialists and other providers, including follow-up and emergency transfers when needed.
- Provide clinical support for workplace and campus injuries or illness, contribute to authorized health and safety initiatives, and raise safeguarding concerns, serious incidents and other risks through the correct channels.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, or an equivalent qualification recognized in Kenya.
- Current registration with the relevant professional regulatory body and a valid practising licence.
- Valid professional indemnity insurance, or willingness to obtain and maintain it as a condition of employment in line with applicable requirements.
- At least two years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in a dispensary, clinic, health centre or comparable primary-care setting.
- Practical experience in outpatient assessment and treatment, referrals and clinical record-keeping.
- Sound knowledge of primary healthcare and infection prevention and control.
- Current Basic Life Support and/or First Aid certification is an advantage.
- Commitment to Kenyan law, professional standards, clinical guidance and organizational policies, including requirements for ethics, confidentiality, data protection, safeguarding and non-discrimination; readiness to undertake continuing professional development.
