Role Overview
This clinician reviews care for both inpatients and outpatients, checking that treatment decisions follow appropriate medical guidance and hospital policy. Working with patients, families, insurers and care teams, the role also supports well-planned discharges and contributes to improvements in the quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Review patients’ clinical progress and treatment plans across inpatient and outpatient services, escalating concerns where care may not align with applicable protocols or hospital policy.
- Support communication and coordination with health insurers on matters relating to patient care and coverage.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to plan safe transitions from hospital and help avoid unnecessary delays in discharge.
- Explain clinical updates and care plans clearly to patients and families, responding to their questions and supporting informed understanding.
- Take part in clinical audits, review findings and contribute to practical changes intended to improve patient outcomes.
- Apply relevant ICD-10 or ICD-11 coding knowledge when reviewing clinical records and related documentation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- MBChB from a recognised university.
- Current, valid registration and licence with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- At least 2–3 years of clinical practice.
- Management experience is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and/or ICD-11 coding.
- Knowledge of Kenya’s health insurance environment, including SHA and private insurers.
