Job Description

Role Overview

This position puts you at the heart of a structured youth programme designed to help adolescents build the emotional and social tools they need to navigate everyday challenges. You will work directly with young people in Nairobi or Mombasa, guiding them through interactive, activity-based sessions that encourage self-awareness, healthy relationships, and positive decision-making. Your daily focus will be on creating a welcoming space, delivering a ready-made curriculum, spotting early signs of emotional difficulty, and connecting participants with the right support services when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and enrol eligible adolescents through active collaboration with local health staff, schools, youth clubs, and community networks.
  • Complete the full coach preparation programme, covering adolescent mental health, group facilitation, safeguarding practices, data collection, and local referral routes.
  • Lead weekly MindSKILLZ sessions using hands-on, strengths-based activities that keep participants engaged and encourage open discussion.
  • Review session plans ahead of time, gather all necessary materials, and set up the space so each session runs smoothly.
  • Partner with a co-facilitator to co-plan, deliver, and refine sessions, sharing feedback and adjusting approaches as needed.
  • Build and maintain a safe, inclusive atmosphere where every participant feels respected and supported.
  • Watch for signs of emotional distress among participants, respond within your training limits, and escalate concerns through the proper safeguarding channels.
  • Make and follow up on referrals to mental health, health, and social support services using the organisation’s established procedures.
  • Collect programme data, keep accurate attendance and participant records, and submit timely reports.
  • Attend supervision meetings, share progress and challenges openly, and ask for technical help when necessary.
  • Look after all programme supplies, including session kits and training materials, keeping them complete and in good condition.
  • Follow the programme’s code of conduct, confidentiality rules, and organisational values in every interaction with participants, partners, and community members.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold at least a Diploma in Social Sciences or a closely related field.
  • Be aged 18–35 at the time of application (near-peer coach).
  • Be available to attend the complete Training of Coaches (ToC) programme without exception.
  • Commit 4–6 hours per week to coaching duties for the full intervention cycle.
  • Provide a recommendation letter from a recognised community leader in Nairobi or Mombasa County, confirming your local standing and reliability.
  • Be willing to obtain a valid Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct) before employment is confirmed.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills in both English and Kiswahili, with the ability to connect comfortably with adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Show reliability, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting young people’s mental well-being.

We strive to provide an environment of professional growth and development. Qualified candidates should send their resume (1page), cover letter (1page), and Recommendation letter (1page) via LinkedIn or email to: [email protected] by 17th August 2026 (5:00 PM). Email subject Line: MindSKILLZ- Coach, Nairobi 2026 or MindSKILLZ- Coach, Mombasa 2026.
