Job Description
Role Overview
The Managing Consultant will help grow Mastercard Services across East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, working alongside cluster and account leaders to develop opportunities with banks, fintechs, merchants, telecom operators and public-sector organizations. The role combines client-facing commercial work with analysis and business operations: you will shape consulting solutions, build the case for investment and keep pipeline, revenue and funding performance visible to decision-makers.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with account teams to find and qualify client needs, develop opportunities and progress them toward agreement across the region’s financial services, technology, merchant, telecom and public-sector markets.
- Manage or contribute to each stage of consultative sales, from discovery and solution design to proposals, presentations, value assessment, negotiation and contracting.
- Turn client priorities into clear problem statements, analytical hypotheses, workplans, recommendations and business cases.
- Develop persuasive, audience-specific proposals and executive presentations, shaping the storyline and presenting it to clients and internal leaders.
- Bring together Services expertise and relevant internal teams to create joined-up solutions; assess markets and competitors, build financial models and quantify potential client value.
- Coordinate with account management, product, finance, legal, delivery and regional Services teams to advance opportunities, address obstacles and support effective project delivery.
- Monitor cluster pipeline, revenue, forecasts and funding; prepare recurring reports and dashboards, coordinate approval processes and identify ways to improve sales operations.
- Share useful learning from client work and contribute to thought leadership and reusable materials, while flagging delivery risks and helping teams agree on corrective steps.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Several years of experience at managerial level in management consulting, corporate strategy, banking, financial services, fintech or technology-enabled business development.
- Evidence of developing and closing consultative commercial opportunities. Experience in payments or digital financial services is an advantage.
- Strong structured problem-solving, quantitative analysis and financial modelling skills, including value assessment, forecasting and performance tracking.
- Clear executive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex issues and adapt messages to different audiences.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and bring diverse teams together in a fast-moving, matrixed organization.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Professional proficiency in English.
- Bachelor’s degree required. A master’s degree, MBA or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.
