Role Overview
This maintenance role keeps manufacturing equipment, plant utilities and supporting machinery safe, reliable and ready for production. You will complete planned maintenance, respond to breakdowns and work with operators and production teams to reduce repeat failures, downtime and maintenance-related costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned plant and equipment in line with the maintenance schedule and safety and quality requirements.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, restore equipment safely and help keep production losses within site targets.
- Investigate recurring breakdowns using methods such as 5 Whys and Fishbone analysis, then follow through on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support Autonomous Maintenance across production areas by coaching operators on equipment-specific cleaning, inspection, lubrication and tightening activities.
- Participate in Autonomous Production Teams and coordinate maintenance work with production colleagues and contractors.
- Follow stockroom controls when requesting, issuing and using spare parts, and provide accurate maintenance records and work-order feedback.
- Contribute to improvements in the site maintenance system, including preventive maintenance effectiveness, equipment reliability and control of spares and utility costs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related discipline.
- Three to five years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in manufacturing; experience in FMCG or process-plant environments is preferred.
- Trade certification as a fitter or mechanic is an advantage.
- Practical troubleshooting experience with bearings, seals, couplings, gearboxes, drives, mechanical power transmission, and pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
- Experience maintaining rotating equipment and production machinery such as conveyors, pumps, mixers, packaging equipment, compressors and utility systems.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs and OEM manuals, and to produce clear sketches, redlines and job feedback.
- Knowledge of precision maintenance, including alignment, correct fitment, torqueing, clearances, lubrication and contamination control.
- Familiarity with condition-monitoring fundamentals, including vibration basics, inspection routines, lubrication checks and wear-pattern recognition.
- Working knowledge of CMMS processes, including work-order updates, failure coding and spare-parts or bill-of-material records; able to support planners with preventive-maintenance improvements.
- Strong root-cause analysis, communication and coordination skills, with the judgement to work safely and take initiative under time pressure.
- Welding, fabrication and basic rigging or lifting knowledge are beneficial, as is experience checking contractor workmanship.
