Lecturer - Philosophy

Role Overview

This position is for a full-time lecturer and researcher in Philosophy, where you will design and deliver courses, supervise postgraduate students, and contribute to the intellectual life of the department. Your daily work involves preparing and teaching classes, advancing your own research agenda through peer-reviewed publications, and collaborating on curriculum innovation—particularly through e-learning platforms and the integration of AI into philosophical pedagogy. The role is central to strengthening the university’s offerings in both core and interdisciplinary philosophy, especially the philosophy of mind and cognitive science.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach philosophy courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, drawing on your expertise in both traditional branches and contemporary interdisciplinary fields.
• Develop and update course syllabi, learning materials, and assessment methods that incorporate e-learning tools and AI-assisted teaching strategies.
• Conduct original research and publish findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals to meet institutional publication requirements.
• Supervise student research projects, theses, and dissertations, providing academic mentorship and guidance.
• Contribute to departmental curriculum design and review processes, ensuring alignment with emerging trends in philosophy and cognitive science.
• Participate in academic committees, faculty meetings, and university-wide initiatives that support teaching excellence and research culture.
• Engage in community outreach and interdisciplinary collaborations within the university and with external partners where appropriate.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A PhD in Philosophy from a recognized university, with a specialization in core philosophical areas and a focus on philosophy of mind and cognitive science.
• A minimum of 24 publication points, of which at least 16 must come from refereed journal articles.
• Registration with the relevant professional body in philosophy or a related discipline (where applicable).
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at university level, including experience with diverse student populations.
• Evidence of an active research agenda, with a record of scholarly works or clear potential for future contributions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside strong interpersonal abilities for collegial work in a diverse academic environment.
• Experience in curriculum development, e-learning platforms (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard), and innovative methods such as AI-enhanced instruction.
• Proven mentorship and leadership qualities, ideally including supervision of graduate students or junior faculty.
