Job Description

Role Overview

This is a three-month, practice-driven training placement for young Kenyan creatives who want to turn raw talent into professional media skills. As a selected participant, you will work closely with industry mentors, build a real portfolio of creative work, and develop the discipline needed to pursue a career in the fast-evolving media landscape. The program is designed for self-motivated individuals who are hungry to learn, experiment, and produce content that matters, rather than simply observe from the sidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in daily hands-on workshops covering core creative and media production techniques, from pre-production planning to final output.
  • Collaborate with fellow trainees on group projects that simulate real client briefs, deadlines, and editorial standards.
  • Complete practical assignments across different media formats — including visual storytelling, audio production, and digital content creation — to build a versatile skill set.
  • Receive and act on constructive feedback from mentors and peers, refining your work through multiple iterations.
  • Maintain a personal learning log or project journal to track progress, challenges, and breakthroughs throughout the three-month period.
  • Present your own work and concepts to the group, defending creative choices and articulating your artistic vision clearly.
  • Adhere to professional production ethics, including respecting intellectual property rights and handling equipment responsibly.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Kenyan youth aged 18–35 with a demonstrable passion for creative fields such as photography, videography, graphic design, writing, broadcasting, animation, or digital content creation.
  • No formal degree required, but you must show evidence of self-driven practice — for example, a personal portfolio, social media content, or samples of prior creative work.
  • Ability to commit to the full three months of intensive, in-person or hybrid training, including scheduled sessions and independent project time.
  • Strong willingness to learn collaboratively, share skills with peers, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Basic proficiency in English or Kiswahili for clear communication during training and project discussions.
  • Access to any personal equipment (camera, smartphone, computer, or recording device) is an added advantage, though shared academy tools may be available.
  • Eagerness to contribute to the local creative economy and apply your skills in community or commercial contexts after graduation.

What We Offer / Why Join

Selected applicants receive a partial scholarship covering a significant portion of the training costs, lowering the financial barrier to high-quality media education. You will gain practical experience that goes beyond theory, working on real projects that become part of your professional portfolio. You will also join a network of young Kenyan creatives and mentors who can support you long after the three-month program ends, opening doors to freelance work, internships, and career opportunities in the media and creative industries.
