Role Overview
This is a full-time teaching position in the Junior Secondary School (JSS) strand of Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). You will guide learners through Grades 7-9, using learner-centred approaches that nurture critical thinking, creativity, and practical skills. Your daily work involves planning lessons, conducting continuous assessment, and tracking each student's progress toward meeting the CBC learning outcomes, while also contributing to the wider school community through co-curricular activities and parent engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver interactive, competency-based lessons for JSS learners in your assigned teaching subjects, aligning with the Kenya National Curriculum.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments, record accurate results, and provide constructive feedback to help learners improve.
- Develop and use teaching materials and digital or visual aids that engage learners with varying abilities and learning styles.
- Identify learners requiring additional support and initiate remedial sessions or differentiated instruction to help them achieve curriculum targets.
- Maintain up-to-date learner records, including academic progress, attendance, and behavioural observations in line with school policies.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and disciplined classroom environment that promotes respect, curiosity, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers in departmental meetings, lesson study forums, and school-wide academic planning activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student performance, challenges, and achievements through meetings, reports, and official school communication channels.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid and current certification by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- A minimum of three (3) years of active teaching experience, preferably in upper primary or junior secondary levels.
- Proven ability to teach in the Junior Secondary School (JSS) section under the CBC framework, with knowledge of its specific teaching methodologies and assessment tools.
- Bachelor of Education degree, or a related bachelor's degree with a recognised postgraduate diploma in education.
- Demonstrated classroom management skills and the ability to motivate learners aged between 12 and 15 years.
- Strong command of written and spoken English, with clear and effective communication skills for teaching and professional reporting.
- Proficiency in using basic educational technology, including digital records, online lesson tools, and virtual meeting platforms where relevant.
- Strong organisational abilities, including task prioritisation, marking consistency, and adherence to school calendars and deadlines.
