Role Overview

This academic position centres on planning and delivering lessons that move a group of learners steadily toward clear, measurable outcomes, and on being the person who knows best how each student in that group is progressing. The role also carries weight beyond the classroom: contributing to curriculum and assessment planning, keeping records that others can rely on, and working alongside colleagues so that teaching quality stays consistent across the department. It suits an educator who is ready to take real ownership of student progress and who treats feedback, reflection and continuous improvement as part of the job rather than an add-on.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach lessons that follow the approved curriculum, adjusting content, pace and materials so that students across the full range of abilities can access the learning.
• Set out clear learning objectives for each unit or topic and make sure students understand what they are working toward and how success will be judged.
• Design, administer and mark both formative and summative assessments, then use the results to reshape subsequent teaching rather than simply recording a score.
• Keep accurate, up-to-date records of attendance, coursework, assessment results and student progress, and prepare reports when they are due.
• Give individual students regular, specific feedback, providing additional support where understanding is weak and extension work where students are ready to go further.
• Maintain a well-managed, inclusive classroom where expectations are clear and all learners can participate confidently.
• Communicate with parents or guardians about progress, achievements and concerns through scheduled meetings, written reports and other agreed channels.
• Take part in staff meetings, collaborative planning and professional development, and contribute to the wider academic and co-curricular life of the institution as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject or discipline.
• A recognised professional teaching qualification.
• At least one year of classroom teaching experience.
• A Master's degree is an added advantage.
• Strong written and spoken communication, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to learners at different levels.
• Confident classroom management and well-developed lesson planning skills.
• Working knowledge of assessment practice and the ability to interpret student performance data to improve teaching.
• Good organisation and time management, including meeting deadlines for marking, reporting and record-keeping.
• A collegial approach to working with colleagues, plus a genuine commitment to ongoing professional learning and to the welfare of students.
