Role Overview
This People & Culture Generalist keeps daily workforce operations running smoothly across a safari company's head office, regional hubs, and field-based teams. You will be the first call for managers who need help with performance, attendance, conduct, or team friction, while also guarding the accuracy and legal compliance of every contract, file, and statutory submission. Because the business operates in remote, multi-site travel settings, your blend of pragmatic problem-solving and people-first support directly enables safari teams to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main HR point of contact for department leads and safari managers, coaching them through performance, attendance, conduct, and other everyday people matters.
- Manage disciplinary and grievance cases from start to finish, following Kenyan law and internal policy—including drafting show-cause letters, running investigations, and facilitating impartial hearings under Section 41 of the Employment Act 2007.
- Conduct confidential, unbiased workplace investigations into policy breaches or interpersonal conflicts, and facilitate fair, prompt grievance resolution.
- Monitor workforce sentiment and turnover trends, coordinate recognition programs that reinforce company values, and track exit interviews to address retention risks proactively.
- Ensure employment contracts, letters, and HR policies comply with the Employment Act 2007, Labour Relations Act, and WIBA, and regularly audit personnel files for accuracy, confidentiality, and data integrity.
- Partner with Finance to verify and submit monthly statutory remittances on time, including PAYE (KRA), NSSF, SHIF, Affordable Housing Levy, and NITA.
- Support occupational health and safety across office and field sites—tracking statutory medical checks and ensuring incident or injury reporting under WIBA is completed consistently.
- Coordinate the rest of the employee lifecycle: recruitment and structured onboarding for mid-level and operational roles, leave and benefits tracking, performance review cycles, and verification of monthly payroll inputs such as attendance registers and approved adjustments.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related discipline; active IHRM Kenya registration is preferred.
- 3–5 years of progressive generalist HR experience covering recruitment, employee relations, statutory compliance, performance management, and HR administration.
- Experience in tourism, hospitality, travel, safari, or another fast-paced multi-site operational environment is highly desirable.
- Thorough working knowledge of Kenyan employment legislation (Employment Act 2007, Labour Relations Act, WIBA), statutory requirements, and HR data management.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with HR information systems.
- Practical, solution-focused, highly organized, discreet, and accountable—able to navigate difficult conversations with empathy, fairness, and objectivity.
