Hospital Administrator
Role Overview
This position carries overall operational responsibility for the hospital, turning clinical and service goals into the everyday reality of wards, outpatient clinics, theatre, diagnostics, pharmacy, and support services. You are the person who keeps patient flow moving, standards upheld, and staff supported, while holding the line on cost and compliance. Because almost every part of the hospital depends on decisions made in this seat, the role directly shapes how safe, how smooth, and how sustainable the care experience is for every patient who walks through the door.
Key Responsibilities
- Run daily hospital operations across all departments, coordinating patient flow, admission and discharge processes, theatre schedules, diagnostic turnaround, and support services so that service delivery stays consistent and uninterrupted.
- Safeguard the quality and safety of patient care by embedding clinical standards, reviewing incidents, supporting audit and infection-prevention activity, and acting on patient feedback to improve the overall experience.
- Lead, supervise, and develop the hospital team — setting expectations, managing rosters and performance, coaching department heads, and creating room for continuous professional growth.
- Keep the hospital fully compliant with health regulations, licensing conditions, and internal policies, preparing for inspections and ensuring documentation and records stand up to scrutiny.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with clinicians, department heads, suppliers, corporate and insurance partners, regulators, and the wider community to protect both operations and reputation.
- Prepare and manage operating budgets, monitor income and expenditure, control costs, and ensure resources — people, equipment, and supplies — are used efficiently.
- Report on operational and financial performance to senior leadership, using data to identify bottlenecks and drive improvement initiatives.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree in Medicine and Surgery, or a Diploma/Degree in Clinical Medicine or Nursing.
- A Diploma or Degree in Business Administration and Management is an added advantage.
- At least 4–5 years of hands-on experience in healthcare management or hospital administration.
- Solid working knowledge of healthcare operations, service delivery models, and the regulatory requirements that govern hospital practice.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in financial management and budgeting is an added advantage.
