History Teacher

Role Overview

You will step into a secondary school classroom and take ownership of History lessons across the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level pathway, guiding students through complex historical events, source analysis, and essay-based argumentation. Your day-to-day work centres on delivering well-structured lessons, assessing written work against Cambridge mark schemes, and supporting students as they build the disciplinary thinking needed for university-level study. This position matters because the school relies on qualified, exam-seasoned educators to maintain strong results in the Humanities Department and to model rigorous, enquiry-driven learning for every learner.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, syllabus-aligned History lessons for IGCSE and A Level classes, ensuring full coverage of prescribed topics and skills.
• Design formative and summative assessments that mirror Cambridge examination formats, including source-based questions and extended essays.
• Mark student work promptly and provide actionable written and verbal feedback that helps learners improve their analytical writing and historical reasoning.
• Maintain accurate learner progress records, tracking performance over time and adjusting teaching strategies to close gaps in understanding.
• Create a classroom climate where respectful debate, conflicting interpretations, and critical evaluation of evidence are encouraged and managed skilfully.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student achievement, learning targets, and any areas requiring additional support.
• Collaborate with fellow History teachers to align lesson resources, share best practices, and contribute to departmental moderation of assessments.
• Prepare students for internal and external examinations through structured revision sessions, mock feedback, and tiered support for different ability levels.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in Education, specialising in History or a directly relevant social science or humanities discipline.
• Valid registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) — this is a mandatory non-negotiable requirement.
• At least three years of demonstrated classroom experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE and A Level History, with familiarity with the content demands and marking expectations of those examinations.
• Excellent classroom management skills, evidenced by the ability to keep learners focused, motivated, and respectful in a secondary school setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear instruction, constructive feedback, and confident interaction with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Proven ability to differentiate instruction and support learners with varying academic strengths, including high-achieving students preparing for competitive university placements.
