Role Overview
As a primary classroom teacher, you will own the day-to-day learning experience of your pupils — planning what they learn, how they learn it, and how their progress is measured and shared. You will work as part of a school network that is deliberately rethinking what primary education looks like, so your classroom becomes a place where curiosity, creativity and character develop alongside academic skills. Success in this role means pupils who feel safe and engaged, parents and school leaders who trust your reporting, and a curriculum that keeps getting sharper because you help refine it.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver daily lessons that follow the school curriculum, schemes of work and lesson plans, adapting your approach for individual pupils and small groups so that different needs and interests are met.
- Build, review and refresh schemes of work and lesson plans alongside the Curriculum Development Manager, keeping materials current and aligned with the school's curriculum framework.
- Set and administer assessments for assigned subjects or topics when requested, then use the results to adjust your teaching.
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming classroom and outdoor environment, preparing spaces, materials and resources for creative play, motor-skill work and hands-on exploration.
- Teach pupils how to handle equipment and materials correctly and supervise their use to prevent injury or damage.
- Lead activities that build physical, mental and social development — games, arts and crafts, music and storytelling among them.
- Observe, record and evaluate each child's development, and produce written progress reports for the Principal, other school leaders and parents.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, guest visits and other experiential learning, guiding pupils to draw lessons from each activity.
- Establish and consistently enforce behaviour expectations and classroom routines that keep order and mutual respect.
- Settle new arrivals into the school day — greeting them, helping with outerwear and steering them towards activities that interest them.
- Take part in professional meetings, conferences and training workshops to keep your practice sharp, and assist with bus loading and unloading.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid TSC certificate.
- A relevant P1 Certificate (with KNEC certificate attached), a Diploma in Primary Education (with KNEC certificate attached), or a Bachelor of Education, Primary option.
- At least three years of primary teaching experience.
- Comfortable working with productivity software including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication — you can explain pupil progress clearly to parents and colleagues.
- Flexible and calm in the face of change, uncertainty and complexity.
- A proactive problem solver who spots issues early and works them through to a proper solution rather than a quick patch.
- Genuine appetite for a feedback-rich culture, including the mutual vulnerability that comes with it.
- Ambition to grow your leadership skills and use them to change outcomes for young Africans.
