Job Description

Job Title: Director of Business Development – Insurance Sector

We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to drive business growth, forge key partnerships, and expand our presence in the insurance market. The ideal candidate will lead go-to-market initiatives for new customer segments, strengthen our distribution channels, and enhance our product offerings in health and medical insurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive business development and go-to-market strategies targeting non-traditional customer segments.
  • Lead corporate sales, partnership negotiations, and new business acquisition to achieve revenue and market share targets.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of medical insurance products, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks (IRA) and local healthcare financing models.
  • Build and manage a high-performing team, providing direction, coaching, and performance management across sales and partnerships functions.
  • Foster strategic collaborations with insurers, healthcare providers, fintechs, and other ecosystem players to create innovative distribution solutions.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to identify growth opportunities and inform product development.
  • Ensure all business development activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in business development, corporate sales, or partnerships within the insurance sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Go-to-Market Expertise: Proven track record of developing and implementing successful go-to-market strategies for new or non-traditional customer segments.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical insurance products, the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) framework, and healthcare financing models in Kenya.
  • Education: Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional Certification: Mandatory insurance professional qualification (e.g., ACII, AIIK, or equivalent).
