Role Overview
You will be the dedicated bridge between French-speaking patients and the clinical team, ensuring nothing gets lost in translation at any stage of the healthcare journey. Working across consultations, ward rounds, and discharge planning, you will provide accurate interpretation while also guiding patients through hospital logistics, financial questions, and follow-up care. Your role directly shapes how smoothly a patient moves from admission to recovery, and how confident they feel in every decision they make about their treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver precise French–English interpretation and written translation during medical consultations, procedures, family meetings, patient education sessions, and all critical conversations about diagnoses, treatment plans, and consent.
- Act as the main contact for Francophone patients from their first arrival through discharge and any post-visit follow-up, ensuring they always know who to turn to with questions or concerns.
- Coordinate access to hospital services such as diagnostics, pharmacy, and specialist consultations, working with multidisciplinary teams to keep patient flow efficient and timelines short.
- Support international patient services by helping with accommodation arrangements, travel logistics, and insurance-related queries whenever the patient or family needs that assistance.
- Partner with patient services, finance, and clinical departments to resolve issues that could delay or complicate a patient's care experience.
- Identify and address communication barriers early, advocating for patients who may be anxious, confused, or unsure about their next steps.
- Maintain clear, organised records of interactions and referrals so that every handoff between departments is seamless and accurate.
- Handle difficult or dissatisfied patients with empathy and professionalism, working toward positive outcomes while remaining calm under pressure.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing is mandatory, with at least two years of experience in a direct patient care setting.
- Native-level fluency in French and English, both spoken and written, is required; proficiency in an additional foreign language is a strong asset.
- Proven experience in patient navigation, care coordination, or a customer service role within healthcare or hospitality.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across departments and present yourself as caring, courteous, and professional at all times.
- Strong analytical and record-keeping abilities, with the skill to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- A composed, empathetic, and tactful demeanour when handling stressful situations, sensitive patient information, or frustrated family members.
