Role Overview
This is a frontline, field-based sales position for someone who is equally at home on an active job site and in a client's office. You will own relationships with builders, contractors, architects and other home-construction professionals in your patch, guiding them from first enquiry through product selection, installation and ongoing support. Because trade customers decide with their schedules and their margins, your ability to give fast, technically credible advice is what keeps projects moving and keeps revenue coming in.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow a defined territory by prospecting, networking and converting new business among home-construction professionals, while protecting and expanding existing accounts.
- Act as the main point of contact for trade customers, learning how each business operates and recommending product combinations that fit their build types, budgets and timelines.
- Conduct regular site visits to see how products are actually being used, spot upcoming project needs and head off problems before they reach the customer.
- Present the product range to decision-makers, explaining performance characteristics, application methods and the practical value each option delivers on a job.
- Handle pricing discussions, terms and contract negotiations through to signed orders, managing the process so revenue targets are met without eroding margin.
- Run hands-on demonstrations and training sessions for installers, crews and contractor teams on correct usage, installation technique and industry best practice.
- Track competitor products, pricing moves and emerging building technology, then use that intelligence to sharpen how the range is positioned.
- Coordinate with logistics, operations and customer service to keep deliveries, installation schedules and quality standards aligned, stepping in to resolve escalations across the project lifecycle.
- Maintain disciplined CRM records of visits, conversations and project status, and report on sales performance, market movements and customer feedback to inform planning.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in business administration, marketing or a related discipline.
- A proven field-sales track record, ideally gained selling construction materials, building products or related solutions to trade customers.
- Willingness to spend a significant share of the working week travelling to sites and customer premises.
- Confidence presenting and demonstrating products to small groups, including contractors and installation teams.
- Strong negotiation ability and the persistence to carry deals through to a close.
- Comfort with CRM systems and routine reporting on sales activity and pipeline.
- Enough technical curiosity to pick up product specifications, installation practices and quality standards quickly.
- Self-directed working style, with the organisation to plan your own schedule and follow departmental processes consistently.
