Our company is guided by a family commitment to quality that goes back to our founding in 1970, when the company established its first butchery outlet in a posh Nairobi suburb to provide quality real halal meat products to the local community. Today QMP operates the largest slaughterhouse and meat processing plant in Kenya. Our Beef, Lamb and processed products are unique as we are one of the few vertically integrated agribusiness in the region. This vertical integration gives us total control of the origin and freshness of all products and enables us to ensure quality at every step. This begins with a robust harvesting program at farms, continues through the implementation of good manufacturing practices at the factory floor and all the way to cold chain delivery through our own fleet of refrigerated vesicles. As a company owned by a Muslim family with high values, QMP places the highest emphasis on full Halal compliance at all times. We are amongst the few meat processors in East Africa who do not deal with any non-halal products. View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

You will take full ownership of a high-throughput feed mill, steering every stage from intake of raw grains and supplements to the loading of finished mash, pellets, and crumbles. Your decisions directly affect feed conversion rates, animal health, and the profitability of integrated poultry and livestock operations, so you will balance daily production targets with long-term plant reliability and regulatory integrity. This is a hands-on leadership role where operational discipline, continuous improvement, and team development are equally critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all production shifts and support teams, coordinating raw material receiving, grinding, batching, mixing, conditioning, pelleting, cooling, and dispatch to meet daily output goals.
  • Establish and maintain production schedules that optimise line utilisation, reduce changeover downtime, and align with sales forecasts and inventory turnover targets.
  • Lead plant-level quality assurance activities, enforcing HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP+, and KEBS requirements across documentation, sampling, traceability, and finished product release.
  • Monitor key performance indicators for yield, energy consumption, downtime, and waste, then implement corrective action plans to close performance gaps.
  • Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance programs with engineering teams to maximise equipment availability and extend asset life.
  • Manage the operational budget, including raw material usage, labour allocation, spare parts consumption, and utility costs, while driving cost-per-tonne reductions.
  • Champion workplace safety and food safety culture, conducting risk assessments, root cause investigations, and employee training on safe handling of dust, heat, and heavy equipment.
  • Collaborate with procurement, nutritionists, and logistics to ensure consistent ingredient supply, correct formulation adherence, and timely distribution to farms and external customers.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or another directly related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in feed milling or comparable process manufacturing, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior plant or operations leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in feed manufacturing technologies including grinding, batching systems, mixers, pellet mills, coolers, and automated control systems.
  • Working knowledge of quality and food safety frameworks such as HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP+, and local regulatory bodies like KEBS, with experience leading audits.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, drive cost optimisation, and implement lean or continuous improvement methodologies in a plant environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under production pressure, with the capacity to lead multi-shift teams across different skill levels.
  • Experience in large-scale feed production and integrated poultry operations is a distinct advantage and will be prioritised during shortlisting.
