Electro-Mechanical Technician

Role Overview

This position keeps high-volume production lines running by installing, calibrating, and maintaining the electro-mechanical equipment that powers manufacturing output. You will split your time between hands-on mechanical work and electrical diagnostics, responding to breakdowns quickly and performing preventive maintenance to stop issues before they cause downtime. Your ability to read technical drawings, configure control systems, and repair mechanical components directly impacts production continuity and overall equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, and maintain electro-mechanical systems, including motors, drives, sensors, and control units.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic faults and carry out fast, targeted repairs to minimise production stoppages.
• Read and apply technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical blueprints during installation, troubleshooting, and repair work.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, system adjustments, and component upgrades to extend equipment life and reduce unexpected failures.
• Configure and troubleshoot PLCs and automation software, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Delta platforms, along with motor controllers and sensors.
• Use diagnostic instruments such as multimeters and calipers to test, calibrate, and verify machine performance after repairs.
• Replace and align mechanical components, including belts, chains, sprockets, gears, and actuators, to restore proper machine operation.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and fellow technicians on installations, system integrations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Electronics.
• 3–5 years of practical experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, with FMCG experience strongly preferred.
• Solid proficiency in electrical diagnostics and mechanical assembly, with the ability to work on both disciplines confidently.
• Working knowledge of PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Delta, as well as motor controllers, variable speed drives, and industrial sensors.
• Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and mechanical schematics accurately and translate them into hands-on actions.
• Skilled in using testing equipment and mechanical hand tools to perform accurate measurements and adjustments.
• Basic welding capability in stainless steel, mild steel, and cast iron for structural and repair work.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures, electrical code compliance, and lockout/tagout practices.
