Job Description

Role Overview

This position keeps the audio side of every event, session and everyday venue operation running cleanly, from the moment a PA rig is unloaded to the final channel muted at the end of the night. You are the technician the rest of the crew relies on for accurate signal checks, tidy cable runs and gear that has been tested and logged before anyone steps on stage. The work mixes hands-on equipment handling with routine maintenance and on-site troubleshooting, so a show never grinds to a halt over a failed cable connect or a misrouted channel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Load, transport, unload, build and position sound reinforcement gear, including PA systems, main and monitor speakers (powered and passive), and microphone packages.
  • Run and dress cabling so walking routes stay safe and the stage or studio floor looks professionally presented.
  • Erect stage equipment and stands, and place basic lighting or visual fixtures when the production calls for it.
  • Carry out signal, line and sound checks before a session or performance, confirming every input reaches the console cleanly.
  • Operate small to mid-sized analogue desks and entry-level digital consoles during rehearsals and live setups.
  • Watch levels throughout a performance to avoid clipping, feedback and distortion that would damage the mix or the equipment.
  • Inspect, clean and test every item before it leaves the store and again when it returns, keeping the inventory log current and reporting damaged, faulty or missing gear to the Line Manager without delay.
  • Handle straightforward in-house repairs such as soldering cables, swapping connectors and managing batteries for wireless systems.
  • Support the senior technical team when audio routing or power distribution problems arise on site.
  • Take the lead on installing, configuring and fault-finding LED screens for events, plus any other duties reasonably assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Audio Engineering, Sound Technology, Media Studies or a comparable qualification.
  • Around two years of practical, hands-on experience with sound equipment in live events, venue operations or production studios.
  • Confident working knowledge of sound technology, including signal flow and console operation.
  • Punctual and dependable, with willingness to work flexible hours when the production schedule requires it.
  • Sharp attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety on site.
  • Able to work as part of a crew, take direction, and stay composed under the time pressure of a live show.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Direct, hands-on exposure to professional audio setups across events, sessions and daily venue work.
  • Room to build your skills and progress within the technical operations team.
