Job Description

Role Overview

This role is responsible for connecting local advocacy champions with county agricultural departments to ensure that farming communities benefit from agroecology and climate-smart initiatives. Day to day, you will track progress on agreed actions, facilitate communication between ward-level officers and farmer groups, and document outcomes from multi-stakeholder meetings. The work matters because it turns advocacy into concrete field-level support, helping smallholders adopt sustainable practices and access relevant programmes in renewable energy, finance, and markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and follow up on commitments made by county advocacy champions, including activity schedules, evidence collection, and progress reporting.
  • Maintain consistent communication with ward and sub-county agricultural officers, county departments, and public extension structures to align efforts.
  • Attend county-level, partner, and multi-stakeholder forums; record key decisions, opportunities, and required follow-up actions.
  • Build practical linkages between advocacy champions, farmer groups, and programmes in agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, markets, and finance.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of new SOCAA members within the county.
  • Deliver basic agricultural extension and advisory support to farmer groups, including referrals, demonstrations, and monitoring adoption of RA-PURE solutions.
  • Keep an updated contact database of county stakeholders and submit concise field updates, activity records, photos, case studies, and emerging risks to the Advocacy Officer.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Community Development, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in field extension, farmer mobilisation, project implementation, stakeholder engagement, or advocacy support.
  • Resident within one of the counties in the applied cluster, with strong working networks and demonstrated familiarity with that county.
  • Understanding of county government structures and agricultural extension systems; familiarity with agroecology, regenerative agriculture, or renewable energy in agriculture is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, relationship management, record-keeping, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, travel regularly within the county, and use email, messaging applications, and standard digital reporting tools.
  • SOCAA membership is an advantage; qualified non-members should be willing to meet applicable professional membership requirements.
