Caretaker

Role Overview

The Caretaker/Groundskeeper looks after the property’s gardens, outdoor areas, equipment and provided accommodation, keeping them clean, orderly and safe. Working alongside Administration, this role combines routine gardening and grounds care with basic repairs, security checks and practical support for outdoor events.

Key Responsibilities

• Plant, water, prune and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees and other plants, following appropriate care schedules.
• Mow and edge lawns, trim pathways, remove weeds, and clear leaves, litter and other debris from outdoor spaces.
• Plan garden layouts and seasonal planting, and use fertilizers and pest-control products appropriately to support plant health.
• Maintain tools, machinery and equipment, including carrying out basic checks and maintenance on the generator and irrigation systems.
• Complete minor property repairs and painting, and report damage, faulty equipment or other outdoor maintenance concerns.
• Keep walkways, driveways and shared areas clear of hazards, taking particular care during adverse weather.
• Collect and dispose of waste correctly, monitor water use, and apply practical water-saving measures where suitable.
• Secure the premises by locking gates and reporting suspicious activity; help arrange outdoor furniture or equipment for events and keep the provided accommodation clean and in good order.

Requirements & Qualifications

• High school certificate or another relevant qualification.
• Practical gardening and horticultural knowledge, including plant identification, regional plant care, landscaping and garden design.
• Ability to use common gardening tools and machinery safely and maintain them in working order.
• Understanding of local pests and suitable control methods, as well as synthetic and natural fertilizers.
• Basic handyman abilities, including minor repairs and painting, with familiarity with irrigation and water management.
• Awareness of applicable health and safety requirements for landscaping and grounds work.
• Interest in outdoor work and the care of plants.
