Job Description

Role Overview

This role ensures county-level advocacy champions stay on track with agreed actions and reporting, while maintaining strong links between local government extension staff, farmer groups, and related programmes. Day to day, you will attend stakeholder meetings, document decisions, and connect champions to resources in agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, and finance. Your work directly strengthens the reach and impact of SOCAA’s advocacy and field support within the county.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and follow up with county advocacy champions on assigned tasks, activity schedules, evidence gathering, and progress reporting.
  • Maintain regular communication with ward and sub-county agricultural officers, county departments, and public extension structures.
  • Attend county, partner, and multi-stakeholder forums; record key decisions, opportunities, and follow-up actions.
  • Establish practical connections between advocacy champions, farmer groups, and programmes focused on agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, markets, and finance.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of new SOCAA members within the county.
  • Provide basic extension and advisory support to farmer groups, including referrals, demonstrations, and follow-up on adoption of relevant RA-PURE solutions.
  • Maintain an updated list of county stakeholder contacts and submit concise field updates, activity records, photos, case studies, and emerging risks to the Advocacy Officer.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Community Development, Natural Resources, or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in field extension, farmer mobilisation, project implementation, stakeholder engagement, or advocacy support.
  • Residence within one of the counties in the cluster applied for, with strong existing networks and demonstrated familiarity with the local area.
  • Understanding of county government structures and agricultural extension systems; familiarity with agroecology, regenerative agriculture, or renewable energy in agriculture is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, relationship management, record‑keeping, and report‑writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, travel regularly within the county, and use email, messaging applications, and standard digital reporting tools.
  • SOCAA membership is an advantage; non‑members must be willing to meet applicable professional membership requirements.
