Role Overview
IRES is looking for a mining engineering consultant who can combine hands-on technical expertise with the ability to teach and advise. Depending on assignment needs, the consultant will develop and deliver training, support professional learning, and provide specialist input on mining engineering and related consultancy work.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver technical learning programmes covering mining engineering, mine operations, mineral extraction, processing, equipment, and mine safety.
- Create training resources such as presentations, case studies, exercises, and other materials suited to participants’ professional needs.
- Lead workshops, seminars, and other facilitated learning sessions, making complex engineering concepts accessible and practical.
- Use relevant examples and industry practices to connect technical instruction with real mining operations and challenges.
- Contribute mining expertise to training proposals, curricula, and consultancy assignments.
- Provide technical advice and subject-matter support on mine planning, operations, extraction, processing, and risk management as required by each assignment.
- Review and update learning content to reflect applicable standards, technologies, and industry practices.
- Check participant understanding and provide constructive feedback to support learning outcomes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least seven years of relevant professional experience in mining engineering or a closely related area.
- A bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mining and Mineral Engineering, or a relevant discipline.
- A master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, Mine Management, or a related field is an advantage.
- Current registration and licensure with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), including a valid practising licence.
- Current membership of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
- Professional certification relevant to the consultant’s specialist area, where applicable.
- Demonstrated experience in technical or professional training, workshop facilitation, presentations, or knowledge transfer; Training of Trainers certification is an advantage.
- Strong mining engineering knowledge, analytical and problem-solving ability, and effective communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to explain technical subjects clearly, work independently on consultancy assignments, and maintain professional integrity with a strong commitment to safety.
