Role Overview
The Accounts Payable Accountant will manage supplier invoices and payment activity for a trading and distribution business in the UAE. Working with SAP and internal finance colleagues, this role helps keep vendor balances accurate, apply VAT correctly and provide dependable information for period-end reporting and audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Check supplier invoices against supporting records, then enter and post them in SAP.
- Compile weekly and monthly payment proposals, routing them for approval before payments are processed.
- Compare vendor statements with ledger balances, investigate differences and resolve overdue or uncleared items.
- Allocate import expenses such as freight, customs duties and clearing charges to the relevant bills of entry and purchase orders.
- Apply UAE VAT requirements to purchase transactions, including reverse-charge treatment for imports.
- Keep supplier master data current and ensure required documentation is on file.
- Follow up on credit notes, debit notes and price variances with suppliers and internal teams.
- Prepare AP aging information and accruals for purchases received but not yet invoiced, and provide schedules and records for audits.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Two to four years of accounts payable experience, preferably in a UAE trading or distribution environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- Practical experience using SAP FI-AP and SAP MM.
- Working knowledge of UAE VAT rules and routine accounts payable controls.
- Strong Excel capability, including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP and PivotTables.
- Careful approach to invoice processing, reconciliations and financial recordkeeping.
- Clear, professional communication when coordinating with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
