Role Overview
IRES engages a Consultant Trainer – Civil Engineering on a project-by-project basis to deliver technical learning and contribute specialist advice to civil engineering and infrastructure assignments. The role combines preparing practical training, facilitating professional development, and supporting consultancy work with current engineering knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver technical programmes in civil engineering, construction and infrastructure.
- Create presentations, case studies, exercises and other materials suited to the subject and participants.
- Lead workshops, seminars and professional learning sessions, adapting the format to meet learning objectives.
- Explain engineering methods, standards and industry practice in ways participants can apply to their work.
- Contribute technical expertise to training proposals, curricula and civil engineering consultancy assignments.
- Provide subject-matter advice on relevant work, including structural and civil works, roads, transportation and water-related projects.
- Review and update learning content to reflect applicable standards and developments in engineering practice.
- Check participants’ understanding and offer constructive feedback.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least seven years of relevant professional experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil and Structural Engineering.
- Registration and a current licence from the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Current membership of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
- Demonstrated experience in professional training, facilitation, technical presentations or knowledge transfer.
- Strong civil engineering expertise relevant to areas such as construction, infrastructure, structural and civil works, transportation, roads, water-related works or engineering project management.
- A master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or a related discipline is an advantage.
- A relevant professional certification in the consultant’s specialisation is expected where applicable; Training of Trainers certification is an advantage.
- Clear communication and presentation skills, sound technical judgement, strong analysis and problem-solving, and the ability to make complex concepts accessible.
- Professional integrity, careful attention to detail and the ability to work independently on consultancy assignments.
