Job Description

Role Overview

This is a senior finance leadership opportunity for an established organisation in Kenya. You will take ownership of the day-to-day accounting function, from maintaining clean ledgers and producing accurate financial reports to coordinating budgets and ensuring every statutory obligation is met. The work matters because it supplies leadership with trustworthy financial figures, keeps the business on the right side of tax and audit requirements, and sets the controls that protect company assets and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger by processing journals, prepayments, accruals, intercompany entries, and bank reconciliations so the month-end close is accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports that give decision-makers clear visibility into cash flow, profitability, and overall financial health.
  • Lead the budgeting cycle, track performance against approved budgets, and provide variance analysis and financial reviews to department heads and senior leadership.
  • Ensure all tax filings, statutory remittances, and regulatory returns are prepared correctly and submitted before deadlines, while staying alert to changes in Kenyan tax law.
  • Manage fixed-asset recording, depreciation calculations, and periodic physical verification, ensuring assets are valued and safeguarded properly.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the accounting team, assigning work effectively, reviewing outputs, and encouraging continuous professional growth.
  • Develop, document, and improve finance policies, procedures, and internal controls to reduce risk and increase operational efficiency.
  • Act as the main finance contact for both internal and external audits, prepare supporting schedules, and assist with ad-hoc financial projects such as system upgrades or process improvements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 15 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including meaningful time supervising or leading a finance team.
  • A CPA(K) or ACCA qualification is desirable and will strengthen an application.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Sage ERP or another recognised enterprise accounting platform is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify anomalies and recommend workable fixes.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, including the confidence to present complex financial information to senior stakeholders.
  • A highly organised approach with close attention to detail and a consistent ability to meet strict deadlines.
