Role Overview
You will act as the financial backbone of an established real estate firm in Ruiru, taking ownership of all daily accounting activities. Your work will directly support management decisions by ensuring tenant receivables are collected, statutory taxes are filed on time, and financial records remain audit-ready throughout the year. This is a hands-on, on-site role that requires someone comfortable working with property ledgers, tax systems, and multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including trial balances and profit-and-loss summaries, for management review.
- Manage the full tenant billing cycle: generate invoices, track rental income, update rent ledgers, and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Reconcile banking transactions, cash receipts, and tenant deposits against company records, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
- Monitor spending against approved budgets and report any notable cost variances to management with clear explanations.
- File statutory returns and remit taxes—including VAT, PAYE, and withholding tax—through the KRA iTax platform within required deadlines.
- Process all sales and rental transactions through KRA eTIMS, ensuring every invoice and commercial billing is compliant with current tax regulations.
- Maintain organised tax schedules, invoices, and supporting documents to facilitate smooth internal and external audits.
- Strengthen internal financial controls by verifying expense approvals, validating transaction documents, and keeping accounting software records accurate and up to date.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
- CPA Part IV certification or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification.
- At least five years of hands-on accounting experience, with direct exposure to real estate, property management, or realtor operations considered a strong advantage.
- Proven practical experience using KRA iTax and eTIMS for tax filing, invoice processing, and compliance reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP or dedicated accounting software platforms.
- Strong attention to detail, especially when reconciling lease payments, calculating taxes, and reviewing general ledger entries.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple property accounts and meet tight statutory deadlines without compromising accuracy.
