The Underwriting Senior Credit Analyst is a key role within the Institutional Credit Management (ICM) organization. The team's mission is to deliver best-in-class credit risk analysis, monitoring, and credit administration, serving as a strategic partner to Corporate Banking and Risk. This shared commitment ensures the safety and soundness of wholesale lending across Citi.
In this position, you will own the credit risk analysis for a portfolio of corporate relationships, taking responsibility for continuous monitoring. Your work will include producing Initial Credit Approvals, Transaction Approvals, Annual Reviews, Quarterly Reviews, and supporting ad‑hoc portfolio and industry reviews as well as stress testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the credit and financial strength of Citi’s most complex Large Corporate, Public Sector, and Financial Institutions clients by performing fundamental credit analysis using both quantitative and qualitative factors.
- Complete comprehensive credit analysis write‑ups and assign internal credit risk ratings based on independent assessment, thorough due diligence, and industry knowledge.
- Continuously monitor the assigned portfolio, tracking industry trends, identifying impacts on key relationships, and escalating potential credit issues to Underwriting, Risk, and Banking partners.
- Partner with regional and industry stakeholders in Banking and Independent Risk to implement and maintain credit assessment and monitoring standards for applicable portfolios.
- Perform other duties as required to support business unit and company goals.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Experience
- 8–10 years of credit experience in Banking, Credit Risk Management, or an equivalent role within financial services.
- Strong proficiency in English and French (both written and verbal).
- Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate key financial components (liquidity position, leverage profile) and identify root causes, trends, and potential horizon issues.
- Background in both Corporate and Financial Institutions risk analysis is a plus.
- Advanced industry research capabilities, with the ability to assess risk and identify key drivers.
- Proven ability to understand and analyze company financial statements, cash flow, industry and competitive dynamics, and projections—including complex business structures with foreign subsidiaries or parent organizations.
- Outstanding organizational skills, ability to prioritize, strong attention to detail, and capacity to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem recognition and resolution abilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- A higher degree in Business (MBA) or a related field is an added advantage.
