Role Overview
This role puts you on the front line of growth for last expense cover, a funeral-related insurance product sold to individuals and institutions around Nairobi. Most of your week is spent in the field — finding families and organisations who need protection, explaining how the cover works, and guiding buyers all the way through to an issued policy. The work matters because each closed sale means a household that won't be pushed into debt when a funeral arrives.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate new business through workplace presentations, referrals, door-to-door visits, and community activations, keeping a steady flow of qualified prospects in your book.
- Explain last expense cover in plain language — premium amounts, payout tiers, and how often payments are made — so buyers understand exactly what their family would receive.
- Move prospects from first conversation to signed application, handling objections and negotiating within company guidelines.
- Reach agreed monthly sales and revenue targets, and keep track of your own performance against quota.
- Stay in contact with existing policyholders, respond to questions about their cover and documents, and encourage on-time premium payments and renewals.
- Help each client choose the package that fits their household size and budget rather than pushing a single standard policy.
- Check application forms and supporting documents before passing them to processing, catching errors that would delay or void cover.
- Record daily field activity — visits, calls, leads, and closed deals — and send sales reports and market feedback to the Sales Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in insurance, marketing, business administration, or another commercial discipline.
- A proven record of selling insurance policies is required; applicants without prior insurance sales experience will not be shortlisted.
- Background in life assurance, micro-insurance, or funeral and last expense products gives you a clear advantage.
- Evidence of meeting or beating ambitious individual sales targets, ideally in a target-driven or commission-based setting.
- Ability to plan your own routes and daily outreach across Nairobi without close supervision.
- Strong networking and closing skills — you can strike up conversations with strangers and turn them into clients.
- Empathy and discretion, since the conversations you lead touch on death, family finances, and grief.
- Organised record-keeping and basic reporting habits, with comfort submitting activity and performance updates on a regular cycle.
