Role Overview
This position is part of the Statutory and Tax Centre of Excellence, with a primary focus on the Sub-Saharan Africa region. On a day-to-day basis, you will prepare and review statutory financial statements, manage corporate and indirect tax filings, and advise leadership on how changing regulations affect the business. Your work is essential to keeping the organisation compliant across multiple jurisdictions, reducing tax risk, and making sure that audit findings and regulatory actions are resolved promptly.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the preparation and delivery of statutory financial statements and tax returns for assigned SSA countries, ensuring they meet local legal requirements and accounting standards.
- Coordinate corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and transfer pricing compliance, including accurate filing, payment, and documentation.
- Act as the key point of contact for external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies during audits, assessments, and investigations, leading the response and follow-up actions.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across SSA and provide practical guidance to finance teams and business leaders on potential implications for operations and reporting.
- Review contracts, business activities, and cross-border arrangements to identify tax exposures and recommend ways to reduce risk while supporting value-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with the Managed Service Provider and regional finance teams to ensure financial accounts are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
- Drive improvements in statutory reporting and tax accounting processes, systems, and controls to increase consistency and efficiency across the region.
- Build tax and reporting capability within local teams through coaching, training, and clear communication of complex requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Qualified accountant with a recognised professional certification and at least five years of post-qualification experience.
- Minimum of four years relevant experience in finance controllership, tax accounting, and statutory reporting.
- Proven track record of managing corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, and statutory reporting across multiple countries within a global or regional organisation.
- Strong technical knowledge of financial control processes and accounting standards relevant to commercial and/or charitable organisations.
- Experience resolving complex tax and technical accounting issues and engaging confidently with senior stakeholders.
- Business partnering experience and the ability to communicate financial and tax matters clearly to non-specialists.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills; SAP and shared services experience are desirable.
- You must have the legal right to work in Kenya at the time of application. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available.
