Job Description

Role Overview

This 12-month internship places you inside the regional WASH team for East Africa, working directly under the Regional Program WASH Director and alongside the Regional WASH Infrastructure Specialist. Your work will help ensure the quality and consistency of water, sanitation, and hygiene programming across nine countries, with a mix of desk-based planning and reporting paired with occasional field visits. Beyond everyday tasks, this is a structured talent incubation experience aimed at recent Christian graduates who want hands-on exposure to international development while growing professionally and spiritually through mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the rollout and monitoring of the WASH business plan across Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda.
  • Contribute to resource acquisition by helping country offices develop compelling WASH marketing and proposal materials.
  • Prepare communication and social media content, including materials for regional WASH conferences and knowledge-sharing events.
  • Assist the Regional Risk Management Officer in identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks across WASH projects.
  • Help adapt and scale project models and approaches that directly contribute to improved child well-being outcomes.
  • Support field offices with water point tracking, data validation, and strengthening a culture of data quality.
  • Help launch and sustain the regional WASH community of practice, including organizing chapter meetings and facilitating peer learning.
  • Carry out additional tasks assigned by the regional WASH leadership team as operational needs arise.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction technology, civil and environmental engineering, water and sanitation, or a closely related field.
  • Registered with the relevant professional body in your field of specialization; additional certifications or short courses are an advantage.
  • Graduated within the last two years from your degree program.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and technical documents.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with design and project planning tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, WaterCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience or familiarity with mWater combined with GIS is a plus.
  • Report writing and negotiation skills, with an ability to engage diverse stakeholders across multiple countries.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is more than a temporary assignment: it is a deliberate 12-month incubation program designed to build your technical, personal, and spiritual capacity. You will receive structured on-the-job mentorship and coaching from seasoned WASH professionals, gain real experience working across multi-country programming, and develop a professional network within the sector. You will also be part of a values-driven, Christian organization where your faith journey is respected and encouraged as part of your growth.
