Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the first point of contact for customers entering the branch, handling all cash-related transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and ATM services. Your primary focus is to accurately assess each customer’s needs and respond with precision, ensuring every interaction upholds the bank’s service standards and regulatory requirements. By mastering cash handling procedures and maintaining a sharp eye for detail, you play a direct role in building customer trust and keeping branch operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process customer cash transactions—including deposits, withdrawals, and payments—while verifying currency authenticity and maintaining an accurate cash drawer balance.
  • Manage walk-in customer inquiries related to cash services, offering clear guidance and resolving issues on the spot or escalating when necessary.
  • Service and replenish automated teller machines (ATMs) within the branch, ensuring they remain operational and stocked with cash throughout the day.
  • Follow all internal policies for cash handling, bulk cash procedures, and legal requirements to prevent fraud or discrepancies.
  • Conduct end-of-day cash reconciliations, balancing your till against transaction records and reporting any variances immediately.
  • Collaborate with other branch departments (e.g., teller operations, customer service, back office) to ensure seamless workflow and customer experience.
  • Stay updated on product knowledge and banking procedures to answer customer questions accurately and refer them to the right specialist when needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: First degree (NQF level 7 or equivalent) in any field.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of frontline or teller experience in a retail banking environment.
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of cash handling laws, anti-fraud measures, and the bank’s policies for teller operations, bulk cash, and ATM management.
  • Procedural awareness: Familiarity with how different branch functions (e.g., customer service, lending, operations) interact with daily cash processing.
  • Core competencies: Ability to articulate information clearly to customers and colleagues, examine transaction details for accuracy, follow set procedures without deviation, manage multiple tasks efficiently, read customer cues and adapt your approach, and consistently uphold service and compliance standards.
  • Technical skills: Working knowledge of banking process and procedure frameworks, customer acceptance and review protocols, processing of financial transactions, and product features relevant to retail banking.
