Job Description

Role Overview

You will support the Task Manager for the Global and Europe and Asia Portfolio at UNEP, helping climate and environment projects move smoothly through the GEF and GCF funding cycles. Your daily work centres on preparing and reviewing funding submissions, coordinating internal input, and ensuring project documentation stays accurate and compliant. This role matters because strong, well-managed submissions and reports keep multilateral funds flowing and help projects deliver measurable environmental results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and finalise GCF concept notes and GEF project identification forms, program framework documents, and CEO endorsement requests before submission.
  • Support the UNEP and GEF review processes by drafting responses and ensuring reviewer comments are fully addressed.
  • Contribute to project preparation grant (PPG) processes, including helping with the internalization of newly CEO-endorsed projects into UNEP systems and procedures.
  • Review progress and financial reports for ongoing projects, identifying gaps and advising on corrective action.
  • Compile and analyse information needed for upcoming mid-term and terminal reviews or evaluations of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical input and quality assurance on GCF full proposals.
  • Coordinate the Unit’s input to the Integrated Project Management Reporting (IPMR) system, including soliciting contributions from colleagues, training team members on data entry, verifying data quality, and producing management reports on the Unit’s reporting status.
  • Liaise with other UNEP teams, including the Cities team, Sustainable Mobility Unit, Research and Market Branch, and Regional Offices, as requested.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in environmental policy, international affairs, engineering, environmental sciences, economics, or a closely related field. A first-level degree combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in place of the advanced degree.
  • At least two years of technical or evaluation experience, preferably involving large, regional, or global programmes and application of a Theory of Change approach.
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise complex technical and financial information clearly.
  • A strong understanding of the GEF project cycle, policies, and funding requirements.
  • Experience working with GEF projects and/or UNEP projects is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with the buildings and construction sector is desirable.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required; working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is desirable.
