Job Description

Role Overview

Support Electoral Trainers sit at the front line of election readiness, equipping the poll officials who will run polling stations, conduct counts and tally results. The work blends hands-on instruction with logistics: you will run training sessions on polling, counting and tallying procedures, set up venues and materials, and move training content down through the cascaded levels to reach clerks and other officials. The Returning Officer also relies on you to step into the field as a Presiding or Deputy Presiding Officer when required, so the standard of training you deliver directly affects how smoothly voting and tallying proceed in your area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers and Clerks, covering the polling, counting and tallying processes step by step.
  • Prepare training venues and organise all materials and equipment needed for each session.
  • Take up the role of Presiding Officer or Deputy Presiding Officer whenever the Returning Officer assigns it.
  • Oversee and guide the individuals who facilitate training for clerks and other election officials at lower-level clusters.
  • Support the Returning Officer in planning and delivering every form of electoral training under the exercise.
  • Put the electoral training plans developed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission into practice at the local level.
  • Collect, keep secure and distribute election training materials as training cascades from one level to the next.
  • Compile and submit electoral training reports as directed by the Returning Officer.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Kenyan citizen who is non-partisan and can demonstrate a record of high personal integrity.
  • A degree or diploma certificate from a recognised institution.
  • Computer literacy sufficient to handle training and reporting tasks.
  • Proven, demonstrated training or facilitation skills.
  • Strong people-management ability, including supervising other trainers and officials.
  • Available for the entire period of the exercise.
  • Must be a resident of the County Assembly Ward where the role is based.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Payment of Kshs. 2,000 per day for the duration of the engagement.
  • A hands-on role in the electoral training chain, including direct service as a Presiding or Deputy Presiding Officer.
