Role Overview
As Assistant HR Manager, you keep the human side of a busy hospitality operation running on time and in good order — from the daily flow of recruitment paperwork and staffing plans to the annual cycles of appraisal and development. You work closely with the HR Manager to make sure every policy, schedule, and record stands up to both internal and external scrutiny, while employees feel supported in their growth. This role matters because the quality of the guest experience depends directly on how well the team is hired, scheduled, developed, and treated.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the HR Manager on the day-to-day running of the department, covering recruitment correspondence, personnel records, employee relations queries, and the administrative follow-through that keeps every HR process moving.
- Review employee development, training, and succession plans, then recommend changes that sharpen individual performance and add value to the wider business.
- Compile the operational staffing schedule and manning guide in coordination with the HR Manager, reflecting real-time operational needs.
- Keep job descriptions accurate and current for every function, updating them with the relevant supervisors as roles and operational requirements evolve.
- Handle job application correspondence end to end, ensuring advertisements, applications, and supporting documents are answered promptly and filed properly.
- Initiate and follow up on annual performance evaluations at supervisory levels, tracking completion across departments.
- Apply the talent guidelines and regulations issued at regional or corporate level, and maintain the documented due-diligence and best-practice records needed for internal and external audits, carrying out follow-up actions as required.
- Work proactively to protect the guest service and team experience, responding quickly and constructively to enquiries and resolving problems as they arise, while building strong working relationships with stakeholders and business partners.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in human resources, gained as an assistant HR manager or HR officer.
- A professional HR certification.
- A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability within an HR context.
- Hands-on leadership style — someone who leads by example rather than by instruction alone.
- A genuine commitment to exceptional guest service and a real enthusiasm for the hospitality industry.
- Capacity to find creative solutions and to offer considered advice and recommendations to managers.
- Personal integrity and the resilience to work in a setting that expects high standards, sustained effort, and energy.
- Self-confidence, initiative, and the ability to prioritise and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
