The history of space activities in Kenya dates back to the 1960s with the establishment of a Satellite Launching and Tracking Base at Malindi. This was a collaborative effort between Kenya and Italy. Over twenty (20) sounding rockets and nine (9) satellites were launched from the facility between 1967 and 1988. Kenya joined the space faring countries on 11th May 2018, when it deployed its first satellite (nanosatellite) into orbit from the International Space Station (ISS). Job Description

Person Specifications (Education, Experience & Competencies) 

  • Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Science, Geo-Spatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Control and Instrumentation, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and implementing policies, procedures, and guidelines related to space science and astronomy programmes;
  • Conducting initial analysis of user needs and contributing to reports and proposals for programme design;
  • Coordinating stakeholder engagement efforts and promoting space science and astronomy;
  • Drafting frameworks for infrastructure planning, data dissemination, or strategic partnerships;
  • Collecting, organizing, and reviewing preliminary technical content for research papers and policy proposals; and
  • Monitoring activities within space science and astronomy programmes and assisting in preparing periodic progress reports.
