Role Overview
As a Flight Operations Assistant at Victory Farms, you are the person who makes sure drone missions actually run — on time, safely, and with every piece of equipment and every file accounted for. Working alongside the drone pilots and the Drone Team Manager, you prepare aircraft and launch sites, act as an extra set of eyes in the field during flights, and take ownership of the imagery, logs, and records that come out of each mission. The role carries real weight: drone work over ponds and farm facilities only stays reliable when someone is consistently handling the practical details, safety margins, and coordination with farm teams behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
- Get drones, batteries, controllers, and accessories ready for daily flights and walk through pre-flight and post-flight checks together with the pilot.
- Serve as visual observer and secondary spotter during missions — relaying information to the pilot and watching the surrounding airspace and ground for hazards.
- Set up take-off and landing areas and keep the operating zone around them clear and safe throughout the flight.
- Support pilots on approved missions such as pond mapping, monitoring, photography, and transport flights.
- Move photographs, video, and other captured data off the equipment after each mission, then name, organise, and store files according to the team's agreed procedures.
- Keep flight logs, mission records, equipment inventories, and battery records current in the designated systems, and handle basic data organisation for mapping and analysis work.
- Clean, inspect, and correctly store drone equipment, report anything damaged, missing, or malfunctioning to the responsible pilot or Drone Team Manager, and assist with routine preventive maintenance as directed.
- Follow drone SOPs and safety procedures at all times, raise incidents, equipment damage, or operational risks immediately, and work respectfully with farm teams to communicate and schedule upcoming drone activity.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE / high school diploma.
- Basic computer literacy, including comfort using email, managing files, and working in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, with solid organisation and time-management habits.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work productively with pilots, data personnel, farm teams, and other departments.
- Discipline in following instructions and written SOPs, plus basic problem-solving ability when something doesn't go to plan.
- Comfort working both as part of a team and independently on tasks you've been assigned.
- A high level of responsibility and genuine respect for safety procedures.
- Willingness to work outdoors in farm environments, with the physical capacity to support field operations around ponds and farm facilities.
- Willingness to travel between Victory Farms operational sites.
- Willingness to learn drone operations and the technology behind them.
Desirable
- Previous exposure to drones, aviation, surveying, GIS, photography, agriculture, aquaculture, or field operations.

- Basic knowledge of drone safety.
