Role Overview
As Flight Purser, you take charge of the aircraft cabin from boarding to disembarkation, leading the crew on duty and making sure every passenger is looked after in line with safety and service standards. You act as the bridge between the cockpit and the cabin, relaying operational information and stepping in decisively when situations on board require judgement and calm. This role is central to how the airline is perceived: your crew's professionalism, the smooth running of the service and the success of onboard sales all rest on your leadership during the flight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and brief the cabin crew before departure, allocating galley and cabin positions, setting service expectations and confirming each crew member understands their safety and service duties.
- Carry out pre-flight checks of emergency equipment, safety briefings, cabin condition, catering and supplies, reporting faults or shortages through the correct channels before departure.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the flight deck and the cabin, passing on relevant operational, weather, security or passenger information and confirming instructions are carried out.
- Direct the crew during medical events, turbulence, technical diversions or emergency evacuations, ensuring procedures are followed and passenger safety is maintained.
- Oversee the onboard service flow, monitoring standards throughout the cabin and adjusting the pace or resourcing as conditions change during the flight.
- Drive onboard sales by setting targets for the crew, monitoring stock and cash or payment records, and encouraging an upsell-focused approach to the duty-free and refreshment service.
- Handle passenger concerns, complaints and disruptive behaviour on board, de-escalating situations and escalating formally where a report or follow-up is required.
- Complete post-flight documentation, including cabin reports, incident and safety reports, sales reconciliations and crew performance notes, and give feedback to crew members on their conduct and service delivery.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid Cabin Crew Certificate (attestation) and a completed recognised cabin crew training programme covering safety and emergency procedures.
- At least 2 years of experience as a working cabin crew member, with demonstrated ability to take responsibility for a cabin team.
- Current knowledge of aviation safety regulations and emergency procedures, including aircraft type-specific training or the ability to complete it.
- Up-to-date first aid, CPR and fire-fighting or dangerous goods training, or willingness to renew certifications as required.
- Secondary school certificate or equivalent; further education or supervisory training is an advantage.
- Strong spoken and written English, clear announcement skills and the confidence to give instructions to both crew and passengers; additional languages are a plus.
- Proven customer service and sales ability, including comfort with handling cash, card or onboard payment systems and meeting revenue targets.
- Physical fitness and medical clearance to fly, plus a clean record suitable for aviation security vetting.
- Flexibility to work rotating rosters, early and late departures, weekends, public holidays and layovers, based in Nairobi.
