Role Overview
In this role you will be the hands-on support behind the daily accounting cycle — recording transactions, checking that supporting documents are complete and properly authorised, and keeping ledgers and files in a state that stands up to internal review and statutory inspection. You will work closely with the wider finance team on cash books, bank reconciliations, budget tracking and routine reporting, so that management is always working from figures they can trust. Getting the detail right at this level matters: accurate, timely records keep supplier payments moving, statutory obligations met and audit queries to a minimum.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction processing: Capture invoices, payments, petty cash movements and other accounting entries into the accounting system, and verify that each item is complete, accurate and approved by the relevant authority before it is posted.
- Cash and petty cash administration: Maintain petty cash records, carry out reconciliations, and prepare replenishment requests so that cash balances are always documented and accounted for.
- Banking and reconciliations: Prepare cash books and bank reconciliations, collect bank statements, and handle approved banking transactions as required.
- Statutory payments: Support the preparation and timely submission of statutory deductions and other mandated payments, working within the applicable deadlines.
- Budget and expenditure monitoring: Track spending against budgets and assist with cash flow monitoring, flagging variances or unusual movements to the supervisor.
- Record keeping and filing: Keep accounting records current and well organised, and file financial documents so that any transaction can be traced quickly from entry back to source documentation.
- Reporting support: Produce basic financial reports and schedules requested by management, drawing figures from the accounting system and reconciling them where necessary.
- Compliance and general support: Ensure transactions follow internal procedures and statutory requirements, and provide wider accounting assistance to the finance team as directed by your supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Professional qualification: Minimum CPA II or an equivalent accounting qualification.
- Education: A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related discipline is an added advantage.
- Experience: At least 3 years in a comparable accounting role; previous exposure to a service-provider environment is beneficial.
- Technical knowledge: A practical grounding in accounting principles and financial procedures, including budgeting, cash management, bank reconciliations and financial record keeping.
- Systems proficiency: Comfortable using accounting software alongside the Microsoft Office suite, particularly spreadsheets.
- Analytical accuracy: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to spot inconsistencies in figures and documentation and resolve them methodically.
- Organisation: Able to manage several recurring tasks and deadlines at once without letting records fall behind.
- Integrity: Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
- Communication: Clear interpersonal skills for liaising with colleagues, approvers and external contacts; proactive and willing to keep building your technical knowledge.
