Role Overview
This university faculty position centres on delivering high-quality teaching and research within a specific academic department, serving both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Day to day, the role involves preparing and delivering lectures, designing assessments, guiding student research, and contributing to the intellectual life of the department through committee work, curriculum reviews, and academic advising. The broader purpose is to advance the department's academic standing, produce meaningful research output, and prepare students for professional and scholarly success.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, ensuring content is current, rigorous, and aligned with learning outcomes.
- Design, set, moderate, administer, and grade examinations and other forms of assessment, maintaining academic integrity and fairness.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, supporting their progression, research interests, and professional development.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, theses, and dissertations from topic selection through to final submission and examination.
- Develop and update teaching and learning materials, including course outlines, reading lists, case studies, and digital resources.
- Conduct original research, publish findings in refereed scholarly journals, and present work at academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Participate in curriculum planning, development, implementation, and evaluation within the department and faculty.
- Contribute to departmental and faculty development plans, administrative duties, and meetings to ensure effective governance and resource mobilisation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in the relevant academic field from an accredited and recognised university.
- At least three years of university-level teaching experience as a Lecturer, or six years of research or industry experience at an equivalent level.
- A minimum of forty publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, including at least fifteen points from articles published in refereed scholarly journals.
- Evidence of having supervised at least three postgraduate students to completion at the Lecturer level or equivalent.
- Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable to the discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate research collaborations, secure external funding, and engage in community or professional service.
