Retail Underwriting Analyst

Role Overview

In this life insurance operations role, you will support underwriters by checking applications, assessing risks against established criteria and preparing policy documents for issue. Your work will help keep policy decisions and records accurate, support smooth coordination between Sales, Operations and Finance, and ensure clients receive timely, clear assistance.

Key Responsibilities

• Review proposal forms for completeness, quality and compliance with pre-underwriting requirements.
• Assess proposed risks using the organisation’s underwriting standards and document decisions clearly.
• Prepare and issue policy documents accurately, meeting required service timelines and procedures.
• Process information from Sales and Distribution to support new policy issuance, and reinstate lapsed policies when eligibility requirements are met.
• Keep complete records of policies, underwriting decisions and related transactions.
• Reconcile underwriting transactions and coordinate information flows with Finance and Operations to support accurate reporting.
• Provide stakeholders with reliable management information to inform business decisions and growth planning.
• Respond to client and intermediary enquiries by phone, email and in person; investigate policy issues and resolve them promptly.
• Process policy cancellations for non-payment in accordance with underwriting procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related discipline.
• At least two years of experience in the insurance industry.
• Professional insurance qualification, such as ACII, AIIK or LOMA.
• Sound knowledge of life insurance operations, underwriting and claims procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Strong organisation, analysis and record-keeping skills, with the ability to follow established procedures and manage competing tasks.
• Clear communication and customer-service skills, including the ability to work effectively with clients, intermediaries and internal teams.
• A collaborative, self-motivated approach, with resilience under pressure and a commitment to achieving work objectives.
