Role Overview
As a Loan Officer, you will be the driving force behind our lending portfolio’s growth and health. Each day, you will identify and attract potential borrowers, guide them through the application process, assess their financial standing, and ensure that approved loans are repaid on schedule. Your work directly impacts our bottom line by balancing aggressive client acquisition with disciplined collection follow-through, all while preserving long-term customer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively source new loan clients through referrals, networking, and outreach, while nurturing existing relationships to encourage repeat business.
- Review loan applications and supporting documents to verify income, credit history, collateral, and overall repayment capacity before making approval recommendations.
- Negotiate loan terms, interest rates, and repayment schedules that align with both client needs and our risk management policies.
- Prepare and present loan packages for disbursement, ensuring all internal documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with relevant regulations.
- Monitor active loan accounts to track payment behaviour, identify early signs of default, and intervene with timely reminders or restructuring options.
- Conduct collection calls, send notices, and arrange payment plans for delinquent accounts, maintaining professionalism and empathy throughout the process.
- Meet weekly and monthly targets for loan disbursement volume, portfolio quality, and collection recovery rates.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients after disbursement, addressing queries, resolving issues, and offering tailored financial advice to foster loyalty.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience as a loan officer, collection officer, or relationship officer within a bank, microfinance institution, or similar financial services environment.
- Proven ability to attract new clients, retain existing ones, and consistently meet or exceed loan disbursement and collection targets.
- Strong communication skills in both written and spoken formats, with the confidence to present loan products clearly and handle client objections gracefully.
- Excellent negotiation skills, particularly in structuring repayment terms that are acceptable to both the client and the organisation.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation with the patience and tact to manage difficult conversations around late payments or rejected applications.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and familiarity with loan management or CRM software is preferred.
