Role Overview
This position combines business development with portfolio oversight, putting you in charge of bringing in new loan customers while keeping current accounts in good standing. On a typical day, you will assess loan requests, maintain contact with borrowers throughout the repayment cycle, and step in when payments fall behind. Your success directly influences the company's ability to grow its lending book while managing risk effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a steady pipeline of prospective borrowers through referrals, networking, and direct client engagements.
- Retain and strengthen relationships with existing account holders by offering responsive support and regular follow-up.
- Evaluate loan applications, verify supporting documents, and assess each applicant's financial situation and repayment capacity.
- Meet personal and team targets for loan disbursement and monthly collection.
- Monitor repayment schedules and initiate timely communication with clients before payments become overdue.
- Negotiate workable repayment arrangements with delinquent borrowers while safeguarding the company's interests.
- Deliver courteous, efficient customer service by resolving queries, addressing concerns, and keeping clients informed throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate records of collections, client interactions, and follow-up actions, and report progress to management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or a related business discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years of practical experience as a loan officer, collections officer, relationship officer, or in a comparable lending and client-facing role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain loan terms and repayment obligations clearly.
- Strong customer service aptitude and the ability to maintain a professional, patient approach even under pressure.
- Proven negotiation skills for handling late payments and resolving payment disputes constructively.
- Comfort with basic financial calculations, credit assessment, and loan documentation procedures.
- Familiarity with standard office software and the ability to use loan tracking or collection management tools.
