Role Overview
As a Loan Officer, you will support the lending team by bringing in new clients, guiding them through the loan application process, and ensuring that funds are repaid according to agreed terms. Your daily work will involve client meetings, reviewing credit information, explaining repayment structures, and following up on overdue accounts. Your effectiveness directly influences the company's capacity to grow its loan portfolio while keeping default rates low.
Key Responsibilities
- Source new loan applications through networking, referrals, and direct client engagement, and qualify prospective borrowers based on their eligibility and creditworthiness.
- Build lasting relationships with existing clients by maintaining regular contact, understanding their evolving financial needs, and connecting them with suitable credit products.
- Achieve set monthly targets for loan disbursement and debt collection; monitor your own performance against quotas and adjust outreach and follow-up strategies accordingly.
- Assess each applicant's financial status and repayment capacity using the credit information and supporting documentation provided before moving a loan forward.
- Explain loan terms, interest rates, repayment schedules, and borrower obligations in plain language so clients fully understand their commitments.
- Negotiate repayment plans with clients who fall behind, securing realistic and enforceable commitments while protecting the institution's collection position.
- Track overdue accounts, issue payment reminders, and follow up consistently to reduce delinquency and maintain the overall quality of the loan portfolio.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, loan disbursements, and collection actions, and prepare progress reports for management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, accounting, marketing, or a related business discipline.
- At least 2 years of professional experience as a loan officer, collections officer, relationship officer, credit analyst, or another client-facing role within financial services.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial products and policies to clients from varied backgrounds.
- Proven customer service and interpersonal skills, including a patient, professional approach when dealing with borrowers in sensitive financial situations.
- Solid negotiation skills and the ability to reach mutually acceptable repayment agreements with clients while still meeting collection goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work with targets, quotas, and deadlines without compromising attention to detail.
- Basic proficiency with spreadsheets, banking software, and customer relationship management tools.
