Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of our lending operations, combining business development with disciplined portfolio management. You will spend your days identifying and onboarding new borrowing clients, while also nurturing existing relationships to ensure timely repayments and high satisfaction. Your ability to balance growth goals with risk control directly impacts the stability and profitability of our loan book.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively source and onboard new loan clients through referrals, networking, and direct outreach to meet monthly disbursement targets.
- Conduct initial client interviews and financial assessments to determine creditworthiness and appropriate loan structures.
- Maintain a personal portfolio of active loans, tracking repayment schedules and following up on overdue accounts through calls, visits, and written reminders.
- Negotiate repayment plans with delinquent borrowers, seeking workable solutions that recover outstanding amounts while preserving the client relationship.
- Deliver prompt, professional customer service across the full loan lifecycle, from application queries to post-disbursement support.
- Retain existing clients by cross-selling suitable financial products and maintaining regular contact to understand their evolving needs.
- Document all client interactions, payment agreements, and collection actions accurately in the system for audit and reporting purposes.
- Report portfolio performance, collection challenges, and market feedback to management to inform lending strategy.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a loan officer, collection officer, or relationship officer role within a bank, microfinance institution, or similar financial organisation.
- Proven ability to meet disbursement and collection targets while maintaining portfolio quality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to interact with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation, including patience, empathy, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Solid negotiation skills, particularly in handling overdue accounts and reaching mutually acceptable repayment arrangements.
- Basic proficiency with spreadsheets and loan management systems for tracking accounts and generating reports.
